Year of the Dead

I can't help myself.  I have been absorbed with the news of the hurricane.  I can't imagine being in New York City during a hurricane.  I am extremely thankful that my Hubby is here beside me watching the news, rather than being hundreds of miles apart with him being in Boston and me sitting here by myself hopelessly watching.

The world has been a crazy place to live in this year of 2011.  Earlier I told a friend that I have nicknamed it "the year of the dead."  There have been earthquakes, tsunamis, fire, tornadoes, drought, and now hurricanes.  The year began with my mother's passing on January 2nd.  Since then I have personally known of two friend's fathers, two friend's mothers, one friend's husband, one friend's brother, a friend's aunt, and two of us have lost family pets. It's not even September yet.  Do you think God is screaming at us?

The east coast holds special memories for me, and although the place of my fondness won't be affected by this storm, I can't help but watch as other people's memories wash away.  What really matters is the lives that will be lost.  I won't know them, but they will each be missed by someone who loves them.  My prayers go out to those who are in the path of the storm.  Now is a good time to pray!

Gratitude for:
- Hubby is home!
- Safety from the storm
- The power of prayer!
- Celebrations of life for those we have loved.
