We used to go for a walk after Thanksgiving dinner. Now it seems that that walk needs to be at the mall. Black Friday has invaded the day. I guess that we are supposed to include being thankful for lower prices among our blessings. Shortly after that comes Cyber Monday. This year I've heard that Blue Monday was just as successful for merchants as were the previous special shopping opportunities. One of the malls in our area is advertising Bonus Black Friday. It's tomorrow! I thought that in honor of the day I'd back up a little and share my Black Friday finds - the original Black Friday that is!
I'm not much for Black Friday shopping. I like to save a buck just like everyone else, but as I age, I find that I'd much rather sleep my way through the night, and avoid the cranky "happy" or "merry" shoppers. Besides, I don't own any camo wear or pack a concealed weapon. Given the reports from my son and daughter-in-law, I was much, MUCH happier in my warm bed snoozing away.
Before I hit the bed though, I snuck in a little internet shopping. We were in the midwest, and I discovered that one of the stores in the area was having a Kerig beverage maker sale. I was able to actually get the Cuisinart one with a large water tank for about the same price as a lower end Kerig. (They are made by the same company.) Because I ordered it on the internet, I was able to avoid paying tax, get free shipping to my house so I didn't have to find room for it in the car, AND - I did it all before bedtime! Yes! ZZzzzzzz
My second Black Friday purchase was made at my cousin's Christian book store. I've been looking for a small lamp for the credenza in our eating area for quite some time. I found the perfect one in her store, and I was able to score a Black Friday coupon so that made it even more perfect! Best of all, I love that it came from her shop....and no camo was required.
Then....last but certainly not least, is the table that I brought home from my aunt's attic. I've tried a few different pieces of furniture in the foyer, but none of them quite fit the bill. This one does. The price was a hug, and the connection between my past and my present only makes it more valuable to me. Priceless!! Now...I'm thinking.....that lamp would look great on this table. Hmmm....I may need to go shopping again in my cousins store!
