We headed to Austin to meet up with my cousin and her guy for a late lunch. This is a cousin that I have only known for a few short years, and "known" is a rather loose term here. We have seen each other a handful of times, and then only when there have been lots of other relatives around. We really don't "know" each other at all. She lives in Michigan, so there isn't much opportunity there. When she invited me (which turned into us) to have lunch, I excitedly accepted. Hubby even made hotel arrangements so we wouldn't have to rush our visit with the dreary prospects of driving home late. Since we weren't meeting them until early in the afternoon, Hubby and I took our time getting there and enjoyed some quiet reading, in their hotel lobby until they arrived.
They recently have embarked on a new business venture - Shoes! My ears always perk up when the possibility of new shoes arises. (My hubby often refers to my closet as the Great Wall of Shoes - such an exaggerator!) We had seen some samples of their shoes last Thanksgiving. They had brought several pairs to show to the family and get some feedback on, but alas, they were not available for purchase. Such a shame. Well.......it didn't take us long to inquire about the new business. Low and behold, they had one pair of shoes with them - in my size - FOR SALE!!! I had to try them on, and then of course, pull out the card and voila! They are all mine.
I have worn them a lot this week. They are really fun, and really comfy. Right now, I have to say they are my favorite go to shoes. It only makes it more exciting that they are one of the first pairs from the new company. (Roy Hayes Studio - by the way.)
Well.....after my shoe shopping spree, we finally went to lunch. It was really nice. We got to talk (alot) and get to know each other much better. Lunch turned into dinner with her daughter, son, and boyfriend. It was great getting to know them better too. Here's the adventuresome part...... We had dinner at a place on 6th street in Austin. Although that part of town is a renowned party place, and it was a Friday night, we managed to get reservations at a rather upscale sushi place. They have other things besides sushi - thankfully - because none of the older members of our party - meaning us - aren't really into sushi so much. Like nodda! George did convince me to put on my big girl panties and try a piece. Being a sushi virgin, he suggested the one with the strawberry on top - rice - cream cheese - and...ummmm....eel! (Don't ask me what it's called other than "the one with the strawberry on top". I don't think you'll find it listed as that on the menu.) After a few delay tactics, I succumbed and popped it in my mouth under the watchful eye of my hubby. I survived. I'm pretty much over sushi though.
Our heads hit the pillow sometime around midnight which is really late for us. It was a lot of fun though. Thanks Lori for inviting us! Party on!!
Gratitude for:
- Time to get to know new family.
- New adventures, even though I think I'm done with eel.
- New Shoes! Score!!
