Discovery

It's been a very long ten days in our house!  We've both been under a lot of stress, and it has shown.  Although we've tried to put on a brave face, there has been anxiety lingering beneath the surface which has bubbled up into tears and silence for lack of anything to say.  We've not been mad at each other - quite the opposite - but we've both felt a little of that "it's not fair" pity party going on.  Well, today we are officially moving on!!

Discovery #1 - The dreaded disease that Hubby and I shared was chiggers!  When we went to church last Sunday, we discovered that several of our fellow building committee members were suffering under the same malady.  Mine were just over-achievers in the "How To Make Your Target Miserable 101" class. We have decided that it is definitely time to fill the empty lot, and stop the critter party. Although a shot in one's bottom isn't on the list of best ways to spend a morning, Hubby and I are happy that we went to the Dr.  I still have a few spots, but the pills are gone as of this morning, and so is the ITCH!!  I suppose I should officially apologize for blaming the bounce house!  So....it wasn't the bounce house, and I'm sorry.  **sigh**

Discovery #2 - When you stay at a hotel, be sure to stay clear of the phone until you have inspected it thoroughly.  Hubby and I made a quick judgment and stayed at what was billed as "the best hotel in the middle of Texas" this past Sunday night.  It looked clean.  It was well defended by the US Army (it's really close to a base and there were several "fatigued" guests!)  The phone was....well.....totally GROSS!  The little red light blinked it's way through 'til morning because it didn't have half it's buttons, and I'm absolutely certain that some of the guests from the chigger party where spending the night there too!

Discovery #3 - This morning I had one more ultrasound.  The staff at Radiology Associates and I agreed we were getting waaaay too chummy.  Ten days ago, the plan was to go in for a "check up" ultrasound. After 2 ultrasounds, 1 CT scan, a Friday night call from a doctor, two people using the "s" word (surgery), and much missed sleep, today I got the final word.  I'M FINE.  I am counting this as a blessing.  Really, I am.  Certainly surgery was NOT in my plans for the summer.  I just wish we could have done all this in a much less dramatic way.

Yes, I'm working on my Peaceful Pathways quilt again.
My seam ripper and I have been bonding.
Discovery #4 - Since I was traipsing into town every other day, I decided to take my mother's sewing machine into to get a check up.  I know this may sound silly to some of you, but I've officially named her Stella after my mother and grandmother.  (Now, I know my mother is probably not happy about this because she hated the name, but it somehow makes me feel connected to them.  After all, if they had not been seamstresses, I would never have learned how to sew, and gotten so much pleasure from it!)  I had tried several times to get Stella up and running properly, but somehow just couldn't make it happen.  After wiping up excess oil, and adjusting tension, re-reading instructions (yes, I do that occassionally), she still wouldn't sew a good stitch.  I was sad.....very sad.  Sewing World Superman discovered that Stella had a broken bobbin case.  It was a $14.95 part.  YIPPPEEE!!!  She sews great now, and the adjustable table fits her perfectly.

Discovery #5 - Being a Nana is hard.  It seems that as you go through the different stages of life there are always challenges and changes.  You would think that by this time in our lives, we'd have it figured out, but I've only discovered that you never get it figured out!  Thank Goodness God is in control.  Today - say a prayer for grandmothers.  We need them.  Thank God for those who have made a difference in your life and your children's lives.

Gratitude for:
- A clean bill of health for me.
- Not having to change our summer plans.
- A clean bill of health for Stella.
- My Grandmothers.  They all influenced my life even though I didn't know them well, if at all.  (For my Hubby's Grandmothers too.)
