Those of you who are....ummmm....a little more "mature" than others might remember the song, "Mr. Postman". There have been several different artists who have done their own rendition. My generation enjoyed the Carpenter's version. We've been having some of our own postal issues lately. (I suppose I should, at this point, issue a "disturbing graphics" warning.)
Several months ago I cut up a plastic sign, and lined the bottom of our mailbox. It doesn't look so bad, does it?
"......So many days you passed me by
See the tears standin' in my eyes
You didn't stop to make me feel better
By leavin' me a card or a letter....."
You can tell from the picture that it needs some work, but it's what you can't see that prompted us to make the change:
I was really worried that someone might mail us a check for a few Million, and it would be enough weight to make the bottom give away and we'd never know.
"......Mister Postman, look and see
If there's a letter in your bag for me
(Please, Please Mister Postman)
Why's it takin' such a long time....."
Several days ago, we found someone who could come and just replace the box without having to be a brick mason! Today was our lucky day! If you think I'm exaggerating the luck, this is what it looked like as he started to take the box out: EWWWWWW WARNING!!!!!
".....Wait a minute
Wait a minute
Wait a minute
Wait a minute
Mister Postman, look and see..."
At this point, I decided to leave him to his work. Only a guy would want to tackle this project! I would need rubber gloves, a long pole, and a BIG garbage bag. I'm outta here! I went to lunch with friends. Not to worry - I sufficiently recovered my appetite when the homemade cinnamon rolls arrived!
By the time I arrived home this afternoon, a miracle had occurred:
Now THERE'S a mailbox I can stick my hand into! Anyone who'd like to send us the Million?
"......C'mon deliver the letter, the sooner the better
Mister Postman ......"
Gratitute for:
- A New Mailbox!!
- 78 degrees in January.
- Lunch with good friends
- Getting the junk out of my garage.
Does that mean that I have to mail you a letter now. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm Wonder if I remember how?
ReplyDeleteRead this blog earlier and then went to the grocery store and it was playing on the intercom. Brought a smile to my face!!
