Living In Between

Yesterday was what would have been my parent's 66th wedding anniversary.  This is the first year that my father has been without my mother for about 68 years.  That's a really looooooong time!  I made it a point to call my father and check on him.  He had planned a very busy day for himself......the dentist, a brief visit to the doctor for a shot, lunch with a cousin which included an afternoon outing, a quick nap in his chair, and a visit with me.  It wasn't until very late in the conversation that his feelings of loss entered the conversation.  Even that seemed more like a wistful longing instead of the tearful man I expected to find.  He, in fact, was doing much better than I.  Even as I write these words, I can't stop the stream of tears from my eyes.  I just miss her.

Yesterday was a busy day for me too, but as I drove around and did the errands that I needed to accomplish, I couldn't help but consider all the members of my family.  Each generation has their trials, but at least for now, life is good.  One of our children experiencing the hustle and bustle of family with three small children.  The younger son and is wife are joyfully expecting their first child.  I remember those days with fondness.  I also remember those days with a bit of, "I'm soooo glad it's over!"

Hubby and I are realizing that right now.....this moment.....well, we are truly in the best time of our lives.  We are beyond the days of potty training, homework, and hormones, and not quite yet in the days when the shadow of death is upon us.  Although we never know what the next moment will bring - and often it is a SURPRISE!! - we recognize our blessedness and celebrate.  Life is good living in the in-between.  Tomorrow life might be different.

So, for today, for this moment, I am grateful for:
- The joys and celebrations of my children.
- Healing hearts
- My husband of 34 years, and our love for each other.
