Hubby and I went to the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Rangers and the Blue Jays battle it out on Saturday afternoon....and it was a battle. We were not alone! Big crowds never seem to amaze me. I love to people watch, it's part of the entertainment experience for me (and a whole lot of other people!)
It was also very HOT. We were so grateful to have those seats at the top of the stadium. While some people absolutely fried, we enjoyed shade for the entire game and nice cooling breezes. It was a really loooooong game. It started at 2:00, and by the time the 10th inning rolled around the people in the hot seats had either gone home, or scavengered for seats in the shade that people had vacated due to the length of the game.
I can't say as I blame them. The worst part was the fact that the concession stands closed at their regular time at the top of the 9th inning. We were getting pretty thirsty and hungry by the time it was finally over. I'm guessing this guy wasn't hungry though!
We decided we'd stick it out though and were rewarded with a win! The game was almost 5 hours long! It got me to thinking about what the record might be for the longest game ever played. I found out that it depends on how you look at it.
The longest as far as the clock was played by the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers in 1984. It spanned 25 innings and 8 hours. Because an inning can't be started past 12:59am, the game had to be suspended and picked up the next day. (Chicago won, 7-6)
The longest game according to innings was 26 innings long, played in 1920 between the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Braves was declared a tie!
Just a couple of interesting tidbits!
Gratitude for:
- Shade and cool breezes
- A cold drink
